Sarah Monks

Program Manager, SOF/Heyman, Columbia University

Sarah Monks is the Program Manager at the Heyman Center for the Humanities and the Society of Fellows in the Humanities at Columbia University. She earned a BA in Psychology and Sociology, graduating with honors from the University of Arizona. She has over fifteen years’ experience working in higher education. An oriental dancer for the past two decades, she was the artistic director of the politically-charged cabaret ensemble, The Turkish Delights. Recreating the illusion of a mythical orient, she conscientiously merged the traditional dance styles of the Silk Road, Eastern Mediterranean, and North Africa with the interpretations of Mata Hari and Isadora Duncan. After years of performing in caravans and saloons of the West, she has come to New York seeking new inspirations.
