James V. Mirollo was the Parr Professor of Comparative Literature Emeritus at Columbia University. He started teaching at Columbia in 1967. His courses and publications were in his specialty of European Renaissance and Baroque Literature and Art. For the Core Curriculum, he taught Literature Humanities and the Nobility and Civility Colloquium. He helped found and teaches in the Friends of the Heyman Center Alumni/ae Seminars. He was the recipient of a Great Teacher Award (1988), the Mark Van Doren Award (1995), and an Award for Distinguished Service to the Core Curriculum (1993). He died at the age of 92.
