Irene Bloom, who died in 2010, was the Anne Whitney Olin Professor Emerita of Asian and Middle Eastern Cultures at Barnard College, and Chair of the Department until her retirement in 2002. A distinguished scholar, Irene Bloom was dedicated to translating the philosophical traditions of China to a new generation of students and scholars.
