Elizabeth Povinelli is the Franz Boaz Professor of Anthropology at Columbia University. Professor Povinelli received her PhD in Anthropology from Yale University in 1991. Prior to her appointment at Columbia, she was a professor of anthropology at the University of Chicago. She is the author of The Empire of Love: Toward a Theory of Intimacy, Genealogy, and Carnality; Labor’s Lot: The Power, History, and Culture of Aboriginal Action; and The Cunning of Recognition: Indigenous Alterities and the Making of Australian Multiculturalism. Her research interests are focused on developing a critical theory of late liberalism that would support an anthropology of the otherwise.
