Arnau Sala is a scholar of modern Iberian literature and culture whose research focuses on modernism, nationalism, and colonialism across Spain and Morocco. He earned his PhD in Latin American and Iberian Cultures, with a certificate in Comparative Literature and Society, from Columbia University in 2026. His dissertation explored the intersections of avant-garde aesthetics and anti-colonial thought from the turn of the twentieth century to the Spanish Civil War. His current book project broadens this framework to the Spanish Protectorate and post-independence Morocco, examining how modernity, nationalism, and colonial memory were shaped through cultural exchanges across the Strait of Gibraltar.

Arnau’s research has been published in Hispanic Review, Anuario Lope de Vega, and Laberintos: revista de estudios sobre los exilios culturales españoles. He has recently edited La guerra que jo he vist, a critical edition of the youth memoirs and war diary of the Catalan journalist Joaquim Ventalló, sent as a recruit in the 1920s to the Rif War in Morocco.
