SOF Fellow Youssef Ben Ismail will present a paper on the "Subjects of the Sultan, Subjects of the Bey: Tunisian Autonomy and Ottoman Belonging" in What Can Tunisian History Teach Us About the Ottoman Empire?, an event organized by the Sakip Sabanci Center for Turkish Studies at Columbia and sponsored by Columbia Global Centers at Istanbul, Tunis, and Paris.
The event will also feature M'hamed Oualdi (Sciences Po Paris) presenting "Over Tunisian Dead Bodies: Ottoman Burial Politics in the 1880s." Comments and reflections by Julia Clancy-Smith (University of Arizona).
