New opera with music by SOF Alum Zaid Jabri to premiere in NYC

2019⁠–2020 Society of Fellows alumnus Zaid Jabri composed the music for a new chamber opera, Southern Crossings, which features a libretto by Yvette Christiansë and
Rosalind Morris, and direction by Crystal Manich. Mark Shapiro will conduct Jabri's score.

The opera will play on June 16 and 18, 2022 at 7:30pm at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater, John Jay College. Click here for more information.

Zaid Jabri
is a Syrian-born composer trained in Poland at the Academy of Music. Since winning the prestigious Adam Didur Prize as a young student, Mr. Jabri has acquired a reputation as one of the most innovative composers working in Europe--an artist who bridges worlds while inventing the new. His work has been widely performed in Europe, North America, and the Middle East. His music has been commissioned and performed internationally by such ensembles as Gidon Kremer’s Kremerata Baltica; the English Chamber Orchestra; Ensemble Zeran; the Orchestra of the Teatro Communale, Bologne; the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra; Neue Vocalsolisten, Stuttgart; the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra; and the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra.
