Society of Fellows alum (2020–2021) and current Governing Board Member Naeem Mohaiemen receives two glowing reviews from The Guardian for THROUGH A MIRROR, DARKLY, his new three-channel film revisiting 1970s America, a decade categorized by hopeful rebellions and catastrophic disappointments. Jonathan Jones writes, "Mohaiemen forgoes a narrator or dogmatic agenda for multiple colliding images that leave you always feeling you are missing something, sowing doubt and ambiguity. One thread concerns the nature of public memory. Who gets memorialised [sic!] and why? What makes one victim of violence a ‘martyr’ while others are forgotten?”

Hettie Judah's June 2026 review of the best of Glasgow International spotlights the work, which will be on display through October 5, 2026. She writes, "Highlighting the relative paucity of archival material – and cultural commemoration – of the black students at Jackson State, it’s a film punctuated with gaps and silences. In a grim foreshadowing (in case more were needed) of our own self-serving leaders, a Vietnamese journalist working in the US observes that while Americans call the conflict the Vietnam War, it should properly be called the re-election war, since it was this that motivated ongoing presidential support."
