The Critical Chinese Humanities Colloquium is pleased to announce the launch of a new online column that features essays, speeches, and reflective pieces by scholars in China, translated into English. The aim of this column is to introduce current important intellectual conversations taking place in Chinese academia to a broader audience and foster dialogue and exchange.

The Colloquium's inaugural piece is a translation of Han Shaogong's speech, "Before and After the Nanshan Conference: A Speech at the Symposium on 'Ecological Civilization and New Tech-Driven Forces of Production,'" in which Han reflects on developmentalism, consumerism, and new methods of quantifying value.
