The Society of Fellows and Heyman Center for the Humanities (SOF/Heyman) and the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society (ICLS) invite applications from advanced graduate students from throughout the university for a Public Humanities Fellowship in Medical Humanities. The fellowship role is that of Network Administrator for the CHCI Health and Medical Humanities Network, as well as directing the Explorations in the Medical Humanities Series at the SOF/Heyman.
The Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes (CHCI) Health and Medical Humanities Network is a global network of universities whose humanities centers and institutes have a particular focus on health and medical humanities. The Network and its website are housed at Columbia University in SOF/Heyman.
The Explorations in the Medical Humanities Series is an ongoing lecture series at the SOF/Heyman. The series is a regular forum for health and medical humanities events on the Morningside campus.
Application
Overview
The Medical Humanities Fellow will work closely with the new Medical Humanities Major at the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society.
Fellows receive a stipend of $4000. The fellowship is for 2021-22, with possibility of renewal. Approximate hours/week: 5.
CHCI Network Administrator/Explorations Coordinator
Duties include:
Communicating with CHCI Health and Medical Humanities Network Listserv
Updating CHCI Health and Medical Humanities Network Website
Liaising with CHCI Steering Committee
Working with ICLS and SOF/Heyman operations teams to facilitate events in the Explorations in the Medical Humanities series.
Eligibility
Applicants must be PhD students at Columbia University and possess the following qualifications:
- Commitment to publicly engaged scholarship
- Research interests in medical/health humanities topics
- Diligent and careful editorial eye

Terms of Award
Fellows will participate in Medical Humanities activities at ICLS, SOF/Heyman, and elsewhere on campus.
