Celebrating Recent Work by Anooradha Iyer Siddiqi

New Books in the Arts and Sciences

February 6, 2024

Our New Books Series event honoring Architecture of Migration: The Dadaab Refugee Camps and Humanitarian Settlement by Anooradha Iyer Siddiqi. In it, Iyer Siddiqi analyzes the history, visual rhetoric, and spatial politics of the Dadaab refugee camps as an epistemological vantage point in the African and Islamic worlds. The work moves beyond ahistorical representations of camps and their inhabitants, finding long migratory and colonial traditions in the architecture, spatial practices, material culture, and iconography of refugees and humanitarians.

Professor Iyer Siddiqi was joined by panelists Hiba Bou Akar, Brian Larkin, Anupama Rao, and Miriam Ticktin.
