The artist Dread Scott will open Abolition 4/13 with a presentation on his slave revolt reenactment project and the motivation, planning, and development of the artwork.

Professors Dennis Childs, Maeve Glass, Stephanie Jones-Rogers, and Bernard E. Harcourt read and discuss Chapters 2 and 3 of Slaves of the State: Black Incarceration from the Chain Gang to the Penitentiary by Dennis Childs, “Venus in Two Acts” by Saidiya Hartman, The History of Mary Prince by Mary Prince, and Second Founding: How the Civil War and Reconstruction Remade the Constitution by Eric Foner.
